Palm Island

A short boat ride southeast of Union Island, Palm Island is a small, flat island ringed by white sand beaches. The whole island is a private resort, but day visitors can enjoy part of it.

The island at a glance

Palm Island covers about 135 acres and rises only about 150 feet above the sea. It was once known as Prune Island. Its swampy interior was transformed when John and Mary Caldwell planted coconut palms there, which gave the island its new name; John Caldwell became known as "Johnny Coconuts".

Visiting for the day

Day visitors arriving by boat are limited to the southern end of the west beach, where a beach bar is open to them. The rest of the island is reserved for resort guests. Visitors usually arrive by water taxi or on a charter boat; the island is close to Clifton on Union Island.
