Turks and Caicos

Turks and Caicos is another island destination that some travelers from North America consider alongside a Caribbean trip. It is a long way from Mayreau: the islands lie in the tropical Atlantic, southeast of the Bahamas and north of Hispaniola, about 575 miles (925 km) southeast of Miami.

How it compares with the Grenadines

Turks and Caicos is known for its long white beaches and its coral reefs. It sits far to the north of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, so it is a separate trip rather than a stop on the way to Mayreau. Combining the two means flying between them, usually through a regional hub.

Mayreau, by contrast, has no airport and no large resorts. If what you want is a quiet island reached by boat, with a village, empty windward beaches and the Tobago Cays next door, start with the Mayreau visitor guide and how to get to Mayreau.

Planning a Turks and Caicos trip

For entry rules, islands and places to stay, the official tourism site is the best starting point.
